This finely carved Maori Toki Manaia Necklace is a real beauty.
It's carved as a Toki (adze), a Maori symbol of power, authority and mana.
Then on top of the toki, there's a manaia with two heads, decorated with paua shell eyes.
The Maori Manaia is a symbol of guardianship, a provider and protector over air, sea and land. It is usually created with a bird-like head, to represent the air.
This cow bone toki measures approximately 5cm (2") long, and hangs from a long black plaited cord with bone toggle closure.
